Precipitated Calcium Carbonate or PCC is refined, purified and synthetic calcium carbonate which has the same chemical formula, CaCO3 like other calcium carbonates of chalk, limestone and marble. PCC is produced by calcination of Limestone with the highest percentage of Calcium Carbonate with lowest amount of Silica, Iron, Magnesia and other natural impurities. The process gives Calcium Oxide which is slacked to produce Lime Slurry. It is further carbonated to form Precipitated Calcium Carbonate under controlled conditions. This is an innovative product obtained from lime. Precipitated calcium carbonate manufacturers also make it by hydrating quicklime which is highly rich in calcium and, the slurry, or “milk-of-lime”, thus produced, is then reacted with carbon dioxide. The obtained product has an identical narrow particle size distribution and it is extremely white. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is available in a large number of crystal morphologies and sizes and can be customised for optimising performance in a definite application.

Applications of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC):

Paper Industry: Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is a widely used product in paper industry. It is well established as a filler and coating pigment for producing paper products of premium quality. It is produced in the form of slurry at precipitated calcium carbonate plants which are situated near paper mills. PPPC brings lots of advantages to paper products. It improves the print characteristics and optical properties, enhances the productivity of paper machine and reduces the cost of paper-making to a great extent. Otherwise, a huge amount of money would have to spend for buying more expensive optical brightening agents and pulp fibre. Paints: Precipitated calcium carbonate specification makes it widely used as extenders in paint and inks for increasing porosity and opacity for dry hiding.
